Lesson Learned: When I started ICC, I was a very shy and introverted person who struggled with making eye contact. At first, I really didn't want to be there and mentioned a few times at chapter that my mom was making me do it. However, by the time I completed YSG 1, I could already see the progress I was making. In YSG 2 and 3, I wanted to be at chapter meetings. I really enjoy the friendships I have made. Now, I am much more comfortable in front of an audience and my eye contact has gotten so much better.

Lesson Learned: A valuable lesson I found while working through the Young Speakers Guild Training series is that pacing your work ethics is very beneficial when you have deadlines and want to get things done on time. If you select certain things you want to do one day, and certain things you want to do the day after that (ex. memorize the first paragraph of your speech) you will be more productive than if you try to do everything in one go.

Caroline McPherson

Lesson Learned: What has been very for me was looking back on speeches that I felt I was being too personal or too venerable, and being blown away with the amount of respect and appreciation they had for me. Because of the self assessment at the end of every speech, I can gain encouragement from my past self.

Celeste Haywood

Lesson Learned:  As an extrovert, the last thing I want to be to other people is boring! The Young Speakers Guild Training Series taught me how to properly prepare a speech for my intended audience. I learned how to prepare, plan, and write engaging speeches, and then received feedback from peers, parents, coaches, and community leaders to make my speeches better! This helped me leave a positive impact on my audiences. I am very grateful for this curriculum and how much it has prepared me for the future.

Lesson Learned: I've learned how to communicate and express my thoughts much easily than when I first joined ICC. Even though I was an outgoing person, I didn't know how to give a speech properly.
