Q. What do I wear?

The majority of communication is non-verbal, and the way we dress can be used to communicate a message. ICC encourages students to consider appropriateness to the situation and respect (for others, for our audience, and for the platform) in the way we dress. A neat and professional appearance is part of the way we demonstrate that we care about others.

  • Conference attire should be worn on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. This includes collared shirts or dress blouses; slacks or khakis (no t-shirts or jeans); and skirts or dresses. Ties and/or suit jackets are not required.
  • Tight or revealing clothing is not permitted during the conference (including clothing that reveals undergarments; shorter skirts without leggings; and shirts that reveal cleavage).
  • Friday is "T-shirt day" where students can wear the Convention T-shirt and jeans (no shorts). T-shirts and jeans can also be worn at check-in.
  • At the banquet, ICC's conference attire principles of appropriateness and respect apply. Gentlemen and ladies may dress in conference attire or as formally as they wish.
  • Thursday Theme Party: Tell me a Story! Come as your favorite character

Q. What should I bring?

A. Be sure to bring a notebook, pens/pencils, sticky notes, anything else you'd like for taking notes and/or debating. and a Bible. If staying in Regent Housing, bedding will not be provided.

We welcome and even encourage student speakers and leaders, ages 13+ to bring your electronic devices, cell phones, laptops, and cameras to this ICC Training Event.  As cultural communicators in the 21st century, we will practice using these forms of media to effectively communicate to those around us.  We will also spend some time discussing proper use of the digital and “virtual” resources available to us today.

All electronics and cords must be clearly labeled with the owner’s name and contact information.

Parent/Chaperone Note:  Talk with your kids about taking responsibility for keeping track of their electronics, respecting other people’s, and appropriate conduct in the digital world. Students who bring electronics are expected to take care of them and conduct themselves appropriately. ICC takes no responsibility for the property of participants.

Q. Is there any preparation required?

A.  Preparation is an important part of getting the most benefit from the Convention. Student Leaders in the Apprentice and RSA role will receive separate communication about advance assignments. Students competing in the National Tournament need to come prepared to turn in script submission at registration. All other students in tracks have no advance assignements.

Q. I registered as a Coach. What will I be doing?

A. As a Coach, you will take part in discussions, sessions, and roundtables all geared to help you take everything at Convention back home with you. There will be time spent covering:

  • The ICC philosophy of communication training
  • How to train students to think biblically and speak culturally
  • What it means to be an authentic leader
  • The importance of developing competence and character
  • Community building
  • Resources for training communicators
  • What a leader looks like
  • And, Coaches' Luncheon!

Q. I have a YCC student. May I bring them with me to the Conference before Friday?

A. Students not in programming may sit in on our General Assemblies in the morning but may not attend a track for which they are not registered. We consider every parent and teacher attending ICC events a Communications Coach. During all hours of student training we also provide coach training. The Coach Track is adult only training. Arrangements need to be made for all children of coaches.
