Beginning Public Speaking Plus!
Ages 9 - 10
What is BPS Plus! ?
Is your third year Beginning Public Speaker ready for a challenge? Do you want your returning 9 - 10 year old who has completed the BPS curriculum to get more out of the Beginning Public Speaking Program? This year ICC is launching BPS Plus!—the program in which ‘alumni’ BPS students are able to enhance their speaking skills by jumping deeper into the realm of public speaking. These students will benefit from an accelerated program, as well as assist the first time students in their activities. Through the advanced training from the interns and the chance for peer mentoring, BPS Plus! offers everything that your student needs to reach the next level in his or her public speaking skills.
Requirements:
Ages 9-10 (Chapter members who have participated in BPS at a prior ICC training event)

Favorite Bible Verse and Explanation
Students are asked to find their favorite Bible verse and prepare to present it to the group during the conference. Prepare one or two verses in a passage- maximum of six verses. After you present your favorite verse, you will need to give up to a one minute explanation as to why the verse is important to you and how it applies to you.
Recitation
Students are asked to prepare a reading or recitation. This may be a short story, poem, or prose selection - 1 – 2 minutes long. Be sure to time your piece to make sure it fits the time limit!
Joke
Students are asked to prepare a joke. The joke should be told in the form of a story, not a riddle or knock-knock. Jokes told in the form of a story are most effective for learning how to incorporate humor into public speaking. Please use appropriate humor that will not be offensive. Refrain from jokes and stories where God or Jesus are the main character; where race and religion are mocked; and where people with certain physical features (e.g. blondes) are made fun of.
Current Issues
Bring one recent news article. It can be from the local newspaper, God’s World, World magazine, Newsweek, or your favorite news source. Somewhere on the article be sure to record the author (if available), date of publication and magazine or newspaper that you found it in. Read the article before you come and be prepared to summarize and explain it in one minute or less.
